In 1968, when Thomas M. Nies approached a bank for funding his new software technology company, the banker thought he was opening a women’s lingerie store. Needless to say, Nies didn’t get the loan. Instead, he chose to courageously self-fund the startup of Cincinnati’s first modern software technology company, Cincom Systems.
